POPULAR LPGA PLAYER MUNI HE ANNOUNCES ENGAGEMENT TO F1 STAR ALEX ALBON

LPGA player Muni He and Formula 1 driver Alex Albon announced their engagement on Instagram Friday.

The couple met in 2019 after He started watching the Netflix documentary “Drive to Survive.” China's He was in a slump at the time, and a friend thought it would help to see things from the perspective of athletes who are under a different kind of pressure.

He, who also goes by "Lily," watched the whole season in one day and found it incredibly motivating.

She started following Albon on Instagram and, at the time, didn't think much of it. Albon, who was just getting into golf, noticed He and followed her back. (At the point, He had more followers on Instagram than Albon.)

Eventually the two rookie athletes starting talking on the phone and met for the first time in Los Angeles, where they played a round of golf together.

"He’s a really funny person," He told Golfweek back in 2021. "I think when we first met, British humor is slightly different. It took me a while to catch on."

The pair have been criss-crossing the world together ever since.

Albon wasn't actually in the first season on Netflix but as his career grew and he appeared on the show, his following began to surpass that of He. As of now, He has 1.3 million followers on Instagram, and Albon has 4.1 million.

"We started our sports as rookies, and we‘ve gone through tough times together," Albon told Golfweek in 2022. "The highs and lows of being an athlete, I think you can resonate that with any athlete. But it also comes with the space that you need. You need a lot of time to work on yourself, and I think golf is really like that, too. In a weird way, we make our long distance relationship work."

He, 26, made 13 starts on the LPGA last season, with her best finish, a T-21, coming at the Mexico Riviera Maya Open. The former USC player was recently featured in Vogue Hong Kong, calling it simply "a dream."
