ACC SENDS MESSAGE TO CFP COMMITTEE AMID MIAMI-NOTRE DAME CONTROVERSY

When the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings were released this past Tuesday, the 10-2 Miami Hurricanes found themselves with a No. 12 ranking.

This position has the Hurricanes on the cusp of postseason contention, trailing the No. 11 BYU Cougars and No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the playoff bubble.

Miami and Notre Dame both finished the 2025 regular season at 10-2, but the Hurricanes have a head-to-head advantage over the Fighting Irish. These two historic college football teams opened the season with a matchup on Aug, 31, which saw the Hurricanes come out on top with a 27-24 final score.

Notre Dame’s position two spots ahead of Miami sparked some serious controversy heading into championship weekend.

On Saturday, No. 11 BYU suffered a 34-7 to the No. 4 Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12 championship game. This result will likely move Notre Dame and Miami side by side in Sunday’s final College Football Playoff rankings.

The ACC feels Miami should move up in the College Football Playoff rankings and claim a spot in this year’s postseason.

“Your move, @CFBPlayoff,” ACC Football’s official account wrote on social media.

Notre Dame opened up its 2025 season with back-to-back losses against Miami and the Texas A&M Aggies, who are both under playoff consideration.

Marcus Freeman’s Fighting Irish squad, which played its way to a national title game last year, has since notched 10 consecutive victories.

Despite Notre Dame’s recent success, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal believes the Hurricane’s head-to-head win over the Fighting Irish should be the No. 1 consideration for the committee.

“The best part about football is that you get to settle it on the field, where head-to-head is always the No. 1 criteria for anything regarding athletics and football,” Cristobal said after Miami’s 38-7 win over No. 22 Pittsburgh to close out the season.

The final College Football Playoff rankings will be announced during a selection show starting at noon ET on Sunday.
